Salterns Boats Ltd - a bit about us

The Memory, Tela, and Wagtail - beautiful, traditional craft, each one with their own unique appeal, yet owing much of this to their creator - Greg Dalrymple. With the foresight 15 years ago to develop a range of craft that would appeal to sailors of all levels and experience, not fussy or overcomplicated, but proper down to earth craft that have charm, perfectly balanced under sail, and above all, are a joy to own.

This was Greg's ethos, and over 150 boats later, the same core values remain. In 2010 production moved from the Hamble River Yard to Dorchester on Thames in Oxfordshire where under the management of Jeremy Freeland, the good work is continued. Greg, still very involved in all aspects of the company, is now able to spend more time sailing the boats rather than building them.

Jeremy however is no stranger to boat production. As graduate from Southampton's Yacht and Marine Management course he went on to undertake an apprenticeship fitting out the Laurent Giles 26' Vertue II's, before eventually becoming Sales and Production Manager for the yacht. Along with this he has successfully built and developed electric craft including all the tooling for a 25' Andrews Slipper Launch. After a five year stint on Yachting Monthly Magazine in London, he withdrew back to the countryside and for the last 12 years has been Managing Director and Company owner of the traditional wooden spar makers 'Collars'. Although Jeremy first met Greg while at Southampton, it was during the last decade of supplying the spars for the Memory, Tela and Wagtail, that they became good friends, and the step back into boat production was a logical progression.

With 7,500 square feet of workshop space and a dedicated mill and varnish room, the boat production slots in perfectly along aside the mast production. Centrally located and just off the M4 corridor access could not be easier, and with the workshops positioned on the edge of a large picturesque lake, even getting afloat is straightforward.
