Although the Memory class was born in the early 70’s from the hand of designer Tony Robinson, the inspiration behind her dates back from way before. The practicality of the open layout together with the shoal draft and centreplate has the traits of a Brightlingsea fishing smack, equally at home taking the ground at low tide or slipped onto a trailer, ideal for today’s leisure market. Since then over 140 Memorys have been built and are now a well proven classics in their own right; safe, easily handled yet fast boats with numerous wins to their credit in Old Gaffers’ Association events. The Memory has been fitted out in many different ways over the years but we remain true to the original concept of simplicity and function. Our philosophy has been to use the very best of modern and traditional materials and craftsmanship, to give an uncomplicated yet beautiful boat of which any owner can be truly proud. The gaff rig is very practical and easy to use, the large sail area can be simply set, controlled and reefed from the large cockpit.

Designed originally as an ‘open’ boat the accommodation is modest but practical on the standard Memory, with two full sized berths and some storage in a vee formation in the snug little cabin under the foredeck. Access is either by a small pair of doors or optionally via the more spacious lifting hatch and washboards. With the Memory being bespoke made the ‘cabin’ version is also available. With the clever use of a fiberglass coach roof for ease of maintanance together with a sliding hatch and solid teak cabin sides lined with bronze portholes keeping every bit the traditional appearance as originally designed. Inside, the cabin offers spacious accommodation with two long bunk mouldings in 'V' formation, both 8'6", and can be arranged to incorporate a galley, portaloo and cabin table if required. Even with the addition of the cabin the cockpit remains large at 6'6" with full length wooden slatted seats and all halyards led aft for easy of handling.
