Wagtail

The Wagtail was originally moulded form an old clinker sailing dinghy, typical of the sorts that were built locally around the Solent from the 1920s to the 1950s. She has a tremendous hull form with a firm turn to the bilge making her stable; a high bow and good freeboard making her dry and a fine entry forward with a good flat run aft giving the hull a good potential for speed.

The Wagtail Dinghy is as easy as possible to rig, launch and sail and makes an ideal training boat. She responds well and is very easy to sail with a surprising turn of speed, and is beautifully balanced in all conditions even without the jib set.

The unique large steel centreplate makes her feel very stable; she even self-righted during the knock-down test! The Wagtail has more freeboard than any other boat in her class making her very dry to sail even in her choppy home waters of the Solent.

Wagtails are built to the same high standard as our larger craft and the substantial GRP hulls are fitted out in a traditional manner in solid teak with beautiful polished bronze fittings as standard.

Wagtails are now well established with boats sailing in all types of UK waters from lakes to the West Coast of Scotland. The camping version opens up all sorts of Swallows and Amazon's fun.

David Harding from the Practical Boat Owner magazine says:

"If you've moved on to bigger boats and have forgotten what fun dinghies can be, the Wagtail is the boat to remind you... She would make the ideal family explorer which you can sail, row or power with a small outboard. Her stability would make her ideal for tuition"

But don't just take his word for it, come and try a Wagtail for yourself and we guarantee you will be impressed by her charm.
